d aprés Cervelo Enews
While watching the Olympic Games, you may notice a number of Cervélos with a new paint scheme in Olympic-themed colours. The Olympics have special rules for logo size and quantity, and while this is usually solved by taping over logos, we felt that something more professional was in order for these athletes at the pinnacle of their sporting career. So we made these special Olympic frames for most of them (though some who were selected very late, as well as those athletes that we don’t even know use Cervélos, unfortunately did not receive one).
But that’s not all, some riders are actually riding a new frame, the S3. The S3 is the new top model in our aerodynamic road frame range. It features new chainstays and seatstays, that are both more aerodynamic and offer more vertical compliance. It also features a new cable routing system, that combines an entry point behind the stem with internal cable stops on the downtube (you can see the black stop on the downtube, this will be painted in production). This offers a clean cable entry without the problem of other cable routing systems that enter behind the stem, but which run the complete housing through the frame. The latter makes the whole set-up quite heavy (200g of extra housing) and the friction makes shifting and braking less than optimal.
And, at 990g for the standard version (and a little bit more for the Olympic version as white is a heavy paint color), the S3 remains as light as you have come to expect from our aero road frames.
You will be able to see the S3 in use under Fabian Cancellara and several of his team mates, some of the Cervélo-Lifeforce riders and the main triathlon contenders. More technical info on the S3 will become available in the next few weeks, both on our website and in éNews.
